Splitting The Lombardi

It’s that time of year when NFL teams are all chasing the Vince Lombardi Trophy. It’s an iconic design, essentially a football atop a sleek, three-lobed pedestal, with only the NFL logo and the championship game specifics engraved on each year’s copy.

Recently, I was asked for advice on how to separate the ball from the pedestal on an imported model of the Lombardi Trophy. After a few minutes, I had it complete, and sometime later, I did a few variations on the method to explore other approaches to the process. It takes a few key surface modeling tools to do it, and I thought some SOLIDWORKS fans might like to see the different methods I came up with to get the job done. Check out the video and let me know in the comments if you have other ideas.
