Dynamic Analysis in SOLIDWORKS

Within the suite of tools offered in SOLIDWORKS Simulation Premium is the ability to do linear and non-linear dynamic analyses of parts and assemblies.

Studies are often performed statically, where loading is applied gradually until the full value is reached.  This gradual loading does nothing to include the effects of inertial or damping forces.  In the real world, most loads are not gradually applied or change with time and frequency.  When analyzing this type of behavior, a linear or non-linear dynamic study should be used.

SOLIDWORKS Dynamic analysis

Linear dynamic studies are based on modal or frequency studies.  SOLIDWORKS calculates the response of the model by continually accumulating the contributions of each mode in the model.  The significant contribution of a mode depends on its frequency content, magnitude, direction, duration, and location.

Random Vibration Analysis:

SOLIDWORKS Vibration Analysis loading scenarios

Random vibration analysis is used to predict the response of a structure to non-deterministic loading.  Examples of such loading are:

  • Wheel loading on a vehicle moving along a road
  • Base accelerations generated by earthquakes
  • Pressure generated by air turbulence
  • Pressure from sea waves or strong winds

Learn More About SOLIDWORKS Dynamics in our Training Class

Become more productive at analyzing structures subjected to various types of dynamic loading. The material covered includes:

  • Time-dependent analysis force loads as well as motion shock loading examples
  • Harmonic analysis
  • Random vibration analysis MIL-STD-810G example is included

You’ll also learn how to deal with models that exhibit large displacements and/or yielding, discuss and practice the use of many material models available in SOLIDWORKS Simulation, and, most importantly, how to drive a non-linear analysis to successful completion.
